Nerd word

I get word of the day emails from dictionary.com. I’m ok with my nerdiness.

This one came in overnight:

Word of the Day for Sunday, May 2, 2010
sesquipedalianism \ses-kwi-PEED-l-iz-uhm\, adjective:

1. Given to using long words.
2. (Of a word) containing many syllables.

Yeah, no shit.

(Funnily enough, the pronunciation guide doesn’t match the word.)

  1. I have always been very amused by the word psychiatrists chose to name the phobia of long words:

    “Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia”

or you can also use Sesquipedalophobia

just telling your doctor about your phobia will strike fear into your heart!

  2. We were at metropolis at the SoH so we missed it, going to have to watch it on i-view tonight. I quite like the assistant chick though.

  3. I love dictionary.com and get the emails too…

Go on, you know you have something to say...
