Fire Island Trailer Features Pride & Prejudice’s LGBTQ+ Reimagining


Searchlight has released a trailer for the upcoming Pride and Prejudice-inspired romantic comedy Fire Island, written by star Joel Kim Booster.

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming movie fire island, directed by Andrew Ahn. Set on the titular island known for its LGBTQ+ inclusion, the rom-com centers on two best friends, Noah and Howie, who embark on an alcohol-fueled summer adventure only to unexpectedly fall in love. The Searchlight production was written by Joel Kim Booster (sunny side), who also stars in the picture alongside Bowen Yang (SNL), Conrad Ricamora, James Scully (You), Marguerite Cho (30 Rock), Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos and Torian Miller.

In the new trailer released by Searchlight Pictures, viewers are introduced to the “makeshift family” as they begin their idyllic holiday. Although Bowen’s Howie initially seemed like a reluctant addition to the trip, stating that the island makes him feel “terminally ill alone“His attitude quickly changes after meeting handsome Doctor Charlie (played by Scully). Mixing in with Charlie’s own group of snobby friends, Booster’s Noah has his first encounter with Will, the character inspired by Ricamora’s Mr. Darcy, who openly disapproves of newcomers. Although the tensions between the two quickly come to life, their chemistry becomes harder and harder to deny even as they argue. Check out the trailer below:

Inspired by Jane Austen’s romantic classic Pride and Prejudice, the upcoming film has already received praise for its bold portrayal of LGBTQ+ actors and storytelling. Confessing that the idea for the project stemmed from Booster’s own acid trip to Fire Island years earlier, the 29-year-old recently expressed his hope that the film would make gay people happy with their sexuality. In addition to being its main star and screenwriter, Booster also produced the feature with Jillian Vogel as a co-production for JAX Media. fire island is set to debut on Hulu on June 3.
