The last time we saw Alex (Aniston) and Bradley (Witherspoon), they were having a crazy “Network” moment on live TV after Alex counted on his complicity by ignoring the sexual misconduct perpetrated by his former man. co-presenter, Mitch (Steve Carell), who had been protected (and encouraged) for years by UBA Network chief Fred (Tom Irwin). Alex and Bradley were cut off in the middle of a rant, going out into the open. The season finale image was – perhaps strangely – of Mitch, sitting all alone, his face blown away from a fist fight he had with Chip (Mark Duplass), the fired and fall executive producer of series. -the-show, “The morning show”.

In the trailer, UBA big boss Cory (Billy Crudup, who won an Emmy for his performance in season 1 in this role), goes to pick up Alex from the snowy house where she is in exile: “You are the only thing that can save us, ”he laughs at his own dramatic statement. From there, the machinations in the workplace escalated, with Alex’s return threatening Bradley’s ascension. “I feel like they’re bringing my big sister over to clean up my mess,” she says in a fantastic reference to “Friends”. (Witherspoon played Jill greene, Rachel of Aniston’s younger sister, in two episodes of the iconic comedy.)

As the trailer unfolds, COVID-19 is mentioned (“trying to get ahead of this coronavirus case”); there is a fallout from the journalistic exposure on “The Morning Show” that was set up in season 1; and the racism rooted in the show (“there is a pattern of behavior here that puts people of color at a disadvantage”) will become a serious problem. Bradley and Alex appear to clash once again as they scramble for power. And Cory screams a lot.

It also introduces the new characters for the season, Greta Lee, who, according to Apple, plays “Stella Bak, a tech prodigy who has joined UBA’s management team”, and Julianna Margulies as Laura Peterson, UBA news anchor. Other new cast members include Ruairi O’Connor (“Ty Fitzgerald, a smart and charismatic YouTube star”) Hasan Minhaj (Eric Nomani, “a new member of ‘The Morning Show’), Holland Taylor (“Cybil Richards, savvy UBA board chair”), Tara Karsian (“Gayle Berman, news producer”) and Valeria Golino (“Paola Lambruschini, documentary maker”).

Carell, Crudup, Duplass, Irwin, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, Desean Terry, Janina Gavankar and Marcia Gay Harden are all returning for season 2.

Season 1 of “The Morning Show” received eight Emmy nominations, with Aniston, Carell and Duplass all recognized for their performances, in addition to the Crudup victory. In January 2020, Aniston won a Screen Actors Guild Award for an Actress in a Drama.

“The Morning Show” was developed by Ehrin and is produced by Michael Ellenberg via Media Res studio. Aniston and Kristin Hahn are also executive producers via Echo Films, as are Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter via Hello Sunshine. Executive producer Mimi Leder is directing several episodes of Season 2.

David Viramontes contributed the “Friends” reference to this report, which is really the only part that matters.
